Plant Starts & Seeds

The time is now to plant as many of the starts as we can in the spaces we’ve been preparing!

Please bring your starts, and seeds you’d like to plant as well. Last week we discovered how long it can take to effectively get plant starts in the ground. This week, we’ll have a couple of new approaches, but mainly a continuation of planting.

Seeds we can plant outdoors: Beets, cilantro, corn, green beans, okra, and potatoes (we have seed potatoes). For fall harvest we could direct-seed cantaloupes, watermelons, zucchini, and pumpkins.
Note, some of these plants will need more room and grow slowly.

Be sure to reference the companion planting guides for what works together, and the square foot garden guides for spacing.

Remember to record what’s planted where, and indicate it with a labeled popsicle stick.

If you have a small trowel today would be a good day to bring it! We have a couple.

It may be a bit discouraging to think we’ve worked on preparing the beds this whole year, and we’re only now planting. Remember, the garden is open to us, for at least this summer! So please continue visiting and participating in the process. There are still Fall crops to begin planting, and seeds we can start. According the Farmer’s Almanac those dates are right around the corner.
