Pick Up Trial at the Grow More Good Garden – Sunday, August 31st
This Sunday we’re testing a new idea: a garden pick-up day at the Grow More Good Garden. If it works, we hope to continue through the end of the season. It won’t be perfect (and yes, it’s last minute!)—but we’re starting.
Our Goals:
Increase access to nutrient-dense food.
Grow awareness of and engagement with shared-space gardens.
Support gardens producing abundantly but short on people-power to move produce to food banks.
Meet the growing need for drive-thru style pick-ups, which people are already searching for on our website.
Challenges We’re Navigating:
Ensuring gardens align with pantry standards (we’ll be following University of Idaho’s guide).
Protecting the landowners who host community gardens. We’re piloting liability signage and simple disclaimers to help.
Expanding the Idea:
We’d love to see more gardens offering food directly from their spaces. To support that, we’ve printed a limited run of 50 “Gifts From Our Garden” posters.
They’re available on a pay-what-you-can basis (suggested $10). Anyone who wants one will get one. Contributions go directly toward covering outreach and communication costs for the Co-op.
How to Get One:
Pick up for free at our last garden tour of the season: Saturday, Sept 6, 10:30 am at the Grow More Good Garden. Details at our Garden Tours page.
Pick up for free at our next market appearance: Thursday, Sept 11th at the West Bench Farmers Market (more dates coming soon).
If you’d like one shipped, we just ask that you cover shipping costs. Please reach out for details.
Bigger Picture:
Most people who follow TVCGCoop are home gardeners, not active in shared gardens. Could this trial be a way to be more inclusive—inviting participation and creating a buffer of protection for the gardens themselves? Could it grow new gardeners, new relationships, and more resilient food access?
We’d love your thoughts. Your comments are invited and encouraged.
