📍 2121 E Lake Hazel Rd, Meridian, ID 83642
Come tour the Discovery Park Community Garden, where the Meridian Co-op Gardeners are expanding their vision of what’s possible—from one neighborhood to the next.
This site represents the second branch of the Meridian Co-op Gardeners, started two years ago by Chris Verkerk and Shauna Miller, who first gardened at the Kleiner Park site. With experience, vision, and a hands-on approach, they brought the Meridian Co-op model to Discovery Park, where a new cohort of gardeners is learning how to work with the land.
Now in its second growing season, Discovery Park Garden is steadily evolving.
This tour will highlight:
Starting a new community garden in an emerging park
Building soil and water systems from the ground up
Using worm castings and compost teas to activate life in depleted soil
Seasonal adaptations and ongoing layout tweaks
What’s working—and what still needs time
There may also be free materials available (like seeds, feedbags, peat pots/Jiffy pots)—bring a tote if you'd like to bring something home.
Dress for hot temps, we’re still not through those days yet this year!

They could still use a few more gardeners. While there are no scheduled volunteer days yet, Chris welcomes one-on-one connections.
