Values
Mutual Respect
Kindness, consideration, and respect.
We will have differences, in how we start seedlings and live our lives, and these are opportunities to learn about something new, exciting, and potentially helpful. We are all in this group for the things that bring us together, a love of growing and being in community.
For difficult conversations, we recommend the Oops and Ouch process
Biodiversity & Diversity
Our gardens are not monocrops, neither is our regional culture. Gardeners know that there is incredible strength and capacity that can be co-created in share garden spaces through the cultivation of a wide diversity of crops. This makes our gardens more resilient to ever-increasing shifts in our climate and region.
Like the plants we cultivate, we can consider the many cultures that make up our region, each with unique lived experiences and histories. Like we honor the strength in the biodiversity of our gardens, as we learn from the plants we care for, we honor the capacity-building and strength that can be cultivated through a growing and purposeful awareness of varied impacts to different cultures in our valley.
Independence
We do not tell people how to run their gardens. We seek to learn how gardens have run successfully and seek to support and build upon those methods for the sake of seeing those gardens persevere. We work to connect people with resources. Everyone has a past that has brought them to a certain present and we are respectful of that and allow each other to make their own choices and are excited to see how we grow together into the future.
Power-to VS Power-over
We recognize that the U.S. food system was designed to benefit some at the direct cost of others, and that much work done over the past decade to create balance and understanding is currently experiencing incredible pressure. Working to address that wherever we can, we are in an active, conscious development process on the administrative level of this org, working towards lasting intersectional community building. We want to help people learn the skills, knowledge, and tools they need to be independently successful in creating the Community Garden of their dreams.
