Operation Salsa
Project Good | One Stone High School
Student-Led Learning
Academic Year 2020-2021
Relief Outdoors
This idea sprouted this summer, Mary K floated the notion by One Stone staff and coaches to see if there was potential for student interest in an outdoor learning module. Project Good is a student-led voluntary part of the school programming, and is open to area high schoolers.
The idea was adopted with enthusiasm!
Shown here are two of the small group of students who plan to grow a salsa garden. We have been experimenting with different regenerative methods for soil health. On this particular day we broadcast a special cover crop blend from the North End Organic Nursery, and covered it with leaves.
Notes & Thanks
As we gathered weekly in rotating small groups to discuss what we wanted to do with the near 1/4 acre, notes were taken and sent to the group for consideration.
Special thanks to Global Gardens, the Homestead Sanctuary, Seeds of Hope, Farmer David from BUGs, and IORC for sharing know-how, resources and labor with us for this project.
Big thanks to St. Stephens Episcopal Church for letting us start this experiential garden!
Feeding the Soil
Here we are implementing the lasagna method using layers of alfalfa hay, compost the students started this fall, leaves and manure.
We haven’t even got to the planting part yet!
