Develop a Commercial Kitchen Map - Not only is growing and harvesting food important, but for a more resilient food system, preservation of the bounty into the winter months is important.
“You Can!” - work with community to preserve food and have it be distributed to those in need throughout the winter
Farmer's Friend - This is a pet project Ben hasn’t had time to really get set up, but every year he has farmer friends that could use a lot of hands to harvest corn that has been pitched before it rots or harvest warm weather crops before a frost rolls through or help a new community garden clean out a rough plot of land to get it set up for planting and growing. Work that can be easily done by people of any skill level that will be really beneficial for local farmers and growers and help connect our community. Need to create a system for people signing up, how to reach out to them when an opportunity arises, and help find and create these opportunities for them
Glean Team - From Suzanne Ubrey’s thoughts at the annual meeting, having a group of people ready to gather produce left over in farmers fields, with an eye towards donating them to food banks/communities in need
Floating Garden Manager - Have someone available to take over Garden Management duties in emergencies or if someone wants to take a vacation during the summer (ya know, spend time with their actual family instead of their plant family!)
Big Tool Library - Share cost of big ticket items like a big ole chipper/shredder.
Plant 1 Row and Maybe 2 - Partner with area farms and gardens to plan to plant 1-3 rows specifically for food directed to community segments in need, with a plan for winter crops. There are currently 2 mutual aid efforts, one going on all this week to get food to Indigenous and Latino, Latinx, Hispanic communities. If we plan for it, we could have winter crops ready for next year knowing it may well be needed.
