Practices of Organic Farming: Soil Investigation
Thursday March 9th, we gathered to investigate the soil!
Collected from the South West corner of the garden. This area of the garden was covered with weed cloth for so many years that plants and weeds were popping through it. Students and volunteers pulled the cloth up during Do-Good Days this time last year. This is an area of the garden where the community members often walk.
This soil sample was collected from an area near the South East corner of the garden, where a cover-crop trial was conducted last fall. It was noted that the soil was very easy to work with for the top 6 inches.
This soil sample was collected from one of the Hügel rows near the center of the garden. It was noted that the soil was also easy to work with.
